The Associated Labor Unions - Central Visayas Region (ALU-CVR) successfully inked two Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs), including the first CBA for its first university-based local affiliate and the contract renewal for one of its pioneer local unions from the lumber industry.
Members of the University of San Carlos General Services Employees Union (USCGSEU) in Cebu City expressed satisfaction after the CBA signing on 28 June 2011 at the USC Main Campus. Local union president Joverito Contratista and USC Vice President for Administration Fr. Elino Bucia, SVD, represented the union and USC management, respectively, during the signing.
The CBA made possible the regularization of 157 members, who have been working for the university for 10 years. It provides members with higher monthly salary of P9,000 from the previous P5,000; 12 days vacation leave per year; and retirement pay, among other benefits.
ALU-CVR also renewed its CBA for Central Lumber Corporation Employees Union on 15 July 2011 at the White Gold House restaurant in Cebu City. Establishment owner Cesar Cinco and President/General Manager Jeffrey Cinco represented the company during the signing. Local union officers and ALU-CVR Officer-in-Charge Ferdinand C. Jumapao, represented the union.
Central Lumber Corporation is not at its best business performance lately but harmonious labor-management relationship helped the company survive and stay competitive. Nurtured thru the years by trust, transparency and social responsibility, both union and management look up to their partnership as a critical aspect of survival in what others call as sunset industry.
