By Jose B. Ares
Sixty-one members of the Sobros Employees Labor Union – Associated Labor Unions (SOBELU-ALU) cheered the signing of the first Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with Sobros Paper Products Company, Inc. on 12 November 2011 at Cora’s Grill in Borja Extension, Cagayan de Oro City.
ALU Northern Mindanao Regional Vice President Nicandro L. Borja and SOBELU – ALU President Juvy D. Pillazar signed the CBA with the company President George So/ So Pang Fai and General Manager Peter Go.
SOBELU - ALU members received the P1,000.00 each as signing bonus, among other benefits after the 16 November 2011 general membership CBA ratification. They also expressed satisfaction with the medical and hospitalization benefits provided by the company to its employees and their dependents thru the CBA.
Mr. So said he welcomes ALU in his company and is committed to provide monthly incentive bonus to the workers in the bargaining unit who are union members.
“I am educated in Canada and I have good experience of unionism. Workers are my best friends in business. Take my word!” added Mr. So.
“The P9 daily wage increase for three years may not be the ideal but this is not the end of the tunnel. We still have more CBA’s to come. At least, Sobros management is not anti-union,” Borja said.
