Each division carries out specific mandates and responsibilities in service of the workers. They are headed by national officials or division heads designated as National Vice Presidents
National Vice President for Membership Recruitment Services
The Membership Recruitment and Services Division (MRSD) is responsible for the organization, recruitment, strengthening, and expansion of the Union for land-based members.
The Division formulates and implements programs to strengthen member participation, ensure compliance with membership policies, and provide efficient and responsive member services.
National Vice President for Administration
The Division is tasked to provide critical support for organizational and human resource development so that ALU can better operate, organize workers, serve members and their families, help shape the trade union movement, and forge social partnerships that contribute to development and social justice in the world of work.
National Vice President for Financial Affairs
The Financial Affairs Division is responsible for ALU’s central financial management function. It serves as “gatekeeper” of the organization’s finances and other assets, and as such, it focuses on responsible utilization of these resources.
National Director for Education and Information
The Education and Information Division (EID) assists members through designing, implementing, and monitoring the organization’s education program. EID targets organizable workers in knowing and exercising their rights and obligations as workers and unionists.
National Vice President for National and International Affairs
The National and International Affairs Division (NIAD) closely coordinates with the national and international labor partners and networks. It serves as the frontline Division for political and advocacy work with national and global social partners. NIAD weaves together the advocacy and organizational and political concerns of workers to ensure that the voice of labor is heard and represented in decision-making.
National Vice President for Operations
The Seafarers Division serves the Union’s seafaring members and their families, and represents seafarers in local, national, and global maritime and transport communities. It is dedicated to advocating for seafarers’ rights and interests, focusing on improving working conditions, wages, and safety standards for maritime workers.
National Vice President for Health Services
The Health Services Division provides medical, dental, and allied services to union members and their dependents. The delivery of health services is carried out in the different ALU regional clinics throughout the country.
